REDSHIFT RECORDS — WEB | BANDCAMP
Ottawa-Montréal duo Paramorph Collective is both and neither a chamber ensemble and band. Its members—An Laurence (guitar, voice etc.) and Kim Farris-Manning (piano, synthesizer, voice, etc.)—both contribute as multi-faceted performers but also as primary creative agents. Their debut recording on the celebrated Vancouver imprint Redshift, All we’re made of is borrowed is an exciting glimpse into their idiosyncratic collaborative dynamic, bridging many worlds in its meditation on themes of grief, regeneration, legacy, and connection. In addition to featuring work by renowned composers Rodney Sharman and Linda Catlin Smith, the album also features a 21-minute commission from emerging composer Margot George where heavy, feedback-laden guitars melt into the elegiac tones of Farris-Manning’s custom organ synthesizer. Threaded throughout are original works created by the duo spanning haunted electronics to song, wild electroacoustic collage to atmospheric spoken word. Recorded at legendary Montréal studio Hotel2Tango by renowned producer/ engineer Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (AKA Jerusalem In My Heart) this recording inhabits an utterly distinctive aesthetic space.
