Owen Underhill’s second collaboration with Quatuor Bozzini is also his third portrait album. Alternating string quartets and songs that feature the Bozzinis alongside countertenor Daniel Cabena and Jeremy Berkman on sackbut, Songs and Quartets provides a window into Underhill’s singular compositional demeanour. Underhill’s language is an elegant collision of various elements and the fact he is able to so seamlessly reconcile this odd combination demonstrates his skill and imagination as a composer.
