The aptly-named hORs TempS (outside of time)is the beautifully disorienting collaboration between Géraldine Eguilluz and Michel F Côté, that employs a unique creative strategy. The starting point is a series of recordings Eguiluz made in Paris in the 1990’s that see the vocalist/multi-instrumentalist candidly and spontaneously exploring her nascent musical influences. Returning to this collection of work some 30 years later, Eguiluz found its raw energy so compelling that she began interacting with it, processing the tapes and overdubbing new elements, before ultimately sharing it with legendary experimentalist Michel F Côté to further extemporize upon it. The result is a potent and strange concoction—acoustic and electronic instrumentation brush up against repurposed sounds and atmospheric treatments, while spiritual, ancestral, and personal themes intertwine. Decidedly unclassifiable, the record juxtaposes an assortment of fragments plucked from different worlds, and just like the carefully placed tiles of a mosaic, these diverse individual pieces form a coherent whole.
