Hamilton bassist and composer Dan Fortin embarks on something new and peculiar with the third album under his own name. Known for his work in groups such as Bernice (Telephone Explosion Records), Queer Songbook Orchestra, and violinist Aline’s étoile magique and MYRIAD3, the forthcoming Cannon is a testament to Fortin’s singular eclecticism. Alongside guests like Karen Ng (collaborator to the likes of Weather Station, Lido Pimienta, and —__–___ ), Philippe Melanson (Sam Gendel, Bernice, Eric Chenaux Trio), and Thom Gill (Fievel Is Glaque, Joseph Shabason, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Chaka Khan), Fortin explores minimalist landscapes that blend jazz abstraction with wayward electronica and stray bits of experimental rock.
