ABOUT: DownBeat recently touted bassist and composer Rob Clutton’s 2019 disc Offering “expansive and sensitive in spirit,” and this could very well apply to the idiosyncratic open-ended compositions heard here. Clutton has been heard alongside Jandek, Arnold Dreyblatt, Tony Malaby, and Anthony Braxton and was also a member of award-winning big band the Neufeld-Occhipinti Jazz Orchestra (NOJO). Over the span of ten original compositions, he leads brilliant horn player Karen Ng and drummer Nick Fraser, whose own work has been gaining momentum thanks to a recent disc on Astral Spirits.
