Catharine Cary’s debut recording AIR CAKE and other summery occupations is (in her words) “an invitation to see the world upside down.”  Indeed what the France-based multi-disciplinary artist proposes on it is truly outlandish: a marriage of whimsical for-all-ages stories crafted and spoken by Cary herself and music by stalwart Montréal improvisers Eric Lewis (of Murray St. Band, Ratchet Orchestra as well as McGill University’s Philosophy Department on cornet, bass Clarinet and toys) and Ivan Bamford (of Eyevin Trio, Gadji-Gadjo, and Togetherness! on drums and toys). Her animated delivery dovetails perfectly with the colourful exchanges of her collaborators producing an utterly unique amalgam that defies categorization.
